Another Dead iPod
Ok, so I bought a 5th Gen iPod in December, 2005. It died (may it rest in pieces) in January, 2006.
I was really jazzed with how the Apple store went above and beyond by honoring their 12-month warranty into the 13th month! Customer service is awesome! I received an identical 5th Gen iPod except that it worked and it didn’t look like it had been handled by Freddy Krueger.
I was determined to handle this replacement iPod with kid gloves. I bought the invisibleSHIELD from ShieldZone and applied it before ever taking the factory cover off of the new iPod. I’m telling you, this thing was going to look NEW for years… except…
10 months later my new iPod died.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE THINGS??? I have searched the net and know that there is a school of thought out there that the hard-drive-based iPods have a self-destruction timer which activates after one year (or if it’s a warranty replacement, sometime after 90 days).
Now the quandary… do I pay $199 for an 8gb Nano, hoping for a sturdier device or do I pay $249 (ONLY 50 BUCKS MORE!) for a device with TEN TIMES the capacity but one that will die in just over a year?
I’ll continue to think about it while I peruse the Archos website…
